AI relies heavily on large amounts of high-quality data to learn and improve.

However, experts have warned that we could soon run out of this type of data - some estimates suggest that AI could exhaust all current high-quality language data by as early as 2026.

This scarcity could force AI developers to consider using lower-quality data, like social media posts from platforms like Instagram and TikTok, which poses a risk of degrading the quality and accuracy of AI models.

Another challenge is the hardware that powers AI. There’s a limit to how many GPUs (the chips that AI uses to “think”) can be manufactured, which could constrain the growth of AI capabilities. Additionally, the environmental impact of AI is significant - the amount of power required is finite, and the more we use, the greater the strain on our planet.

Even if we manage to provide AI with more power and data, we still don’t fully understand the limitations of the current technology. There are concerns that relying too heavily on AI-generated data could lead to “model collapse,” where the AI produces nonsensical or unreliable outputs.

These challenges highlight the importance of careful and responsible development in the AI field. It’s a reminder that while AI holds incredible potential, it’s not without its limitations - but wow its pretty amazing to watch it do its
