"If your business was a person, how would you describe its personality?"

When reviewing a businesses purpose and values, I like to run an exercise.

"If your business was a person, how would you describe its personality?"

The scenario - You have met this now sentient business at a BBQ, after spending a few hours with them, how would you describe them at the end of the night?

Focus on how it actually behaved, not how you would like it to be.

Were they;

  • Friendly and approachable

  • Professional and knowledgeable

  • Reliable and trustworthy

  • Supportive and helpful

  • Forward thinking

Now take some time to wander around and see

  • How your team interact with each other and your clients

  • Look to see if your business processes are clear

  • Look at what value you add to your clients businesses

  • Look at how your business empowers team members, provide constructive feedback and opportunities to develop

Values look great posted on a wall, website or t-shirt but create a large target if you don't create the environment where they are actively encouraged and lived every day.
